Historia Lean Manufacturing
Nazwa Lean Management po raz pierwszy została użyta i wymyślona przez naukowców z Massachussets Institute of Technology w Bostonie: James P. Womack, Daniel T. Jones i Daniel Roos. W 1991 roku opublikowali słynną prace „The Machine That Changed the World” ("Maszyna, która zmieniła świat"), w której porównywali parametry nakładów i wyników w przedsiębiorstwach japońskich, amerykańskich i europejskich. Za lidera uznali japońską firmę Toyota Motor Corporation z systemem Toyota Production System.
