AS-interface
Objectives:
- Practical skills of designing and implementing control systems of machines based on AS-interface
- Explanation of the communication problems occurring in the networks built of devices made by different manufacturers
- Introduction to AS-i diagnostics
The knowledge gained in the course is universal and does not depend on the equipment used, it relates to the open and manufacturer-independent AS-Interface.

Course program
The knowledge gained in the course is universal and does not depend on the equipment used, it relates to the open and manufacturer-independent AS-Interface.
- Introduction to the physical layer of the industrial network AS-Interface: designing, installation, network diagnostics
- Co-operation of interconnected pieces within AS-interface network (system initialization, Master-Slave communication)
- Configuring and launching the AS-Interface network
- Software development, digital and analog variables addressing
- Error analysis in the physical and logic layers
- Examples of visualization screens created in CodeSys
- Maintenance – replacing devices within your system
- Maintenance – diagnostics of devices operating within AS-i network (diagnostics of modules and transmissions, setting reaction time)
- Maintenance – methods of optimizing transmissions in the AS-I network, ways to improve the operation of the whole network
Laboratory
Classes take place in a modern Laboratory of Sensors and Industrial Networks, equipped with training positions featuring sensing elements of all types currently available in industrial automation.
About us
Our experts
Sc. D. Piotr Michalski is a PhD graduate in the Institute of Engineering Processes, Automation and Integrated Manufacturing Systems, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, The Silesian University of Technology. He is the initiator and founder of the Workroom of Sensors and Industrial Networks that is a part of The Laboratory of Automation, Mechatronics and CIM. A winner and runner-up in the national FESTO Mechatronics Competition 2004 and a grand prize winner in the international Control Engineering 2008 industrial automation competition. He has defended his PhD dissertation on the machinery diagnostics with focus on industrial networks. He has written a monograph on the optimization and diagnostics assistance of the AS-interface and he is a co-author of numerous publications, textbooks and monographs on the machinery diagnostics. His key scientific accomplishments concern the development of diagnostic methods of mechatronics machinery with focus on industrial networks. His interesting lectures are illustrated with numerous real examples of problems that he encounters in his everyday work. His mission is development and promotion of modern solutions concerning technological process control which makes him a valuable member of academic staff.
